According to a recent survey by McCrindle Research, it’s found that Australia continues to experience a long and noticeable man drought with females dominating six out of its eight states – approximately 100,000 more women than men.
If you’re a single female in such cities as Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane you don’t need some survey to tell you this, all you need to do is head out on a weekend and you’ll notice this skewed ratio. It’s hard to miss the hoarders of women competing for the attention of an unattached, attractive and mature bloke (the trifecta). But not to worry ladies as there are a number of destinations/countries where this is reversed and men flourish while women are a rarer commodity.
If you’re looking for love why not check out the following destinations where men outnumber women.
Ah Los Angeles! Yes I was surprised to hear that ‘La La Land’ which is renowned for its toned, beautiful and stylish people is a man-haven. With around 90,000 more single men than women calling the ‘city of angels’ home, it’s a perfect destination to visit and seek love in the sun. From the pristine beaches of Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Pasadena and Long Beach to Beverly Hills (the home of the rich and famous) to West Hollywood (boasting some of the hottest nightlife in the area), Los Angeles is not only a fun and vibrant destination but one that offers the chance for a rom-com style romance.
Like something straight out of a postcard, Samona is a tropical paradise famed for its white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, active marine ecosystem, lust rainforests/vegetation, cascading waterfalls and rugged volcanic mountain peaks. The people of Samona are also known to be very friendly, warm and welcoming to its island visitors. Not only is it a destination boasting many R&R, adventure and watersport opportunities, but Samona is also found to offer good geographic chances of meeting a Polynesian babe with males outnumbering females by 1.09:1 as of late 2013. So why not trade-in the cliché ‘pub crawl’ for a ‘waterfall crawl’ on the island of Upolu, visiting such spots as Sopoaga Falls and Fuipisia Falls. How about getting amongst the lively atmosphere of a traditional Fiafia Night featuring Samoan dancing with drummers, singing and enjoy authentic dishes. If all else fails, mingle with locals at the Apia Markets on Upolu and along the way pick up some unique handicrafts, sarongs and woven pandanus mats and sample the region’s fresh produce and cuisine.
With an estimated 24 million single men predicted by 2020 as reported by the National Statistic Bureau of China, Shanghai being its hub is a no brainer ‘man-mecca’. It is also a favourite spot for expats who are flocking to this ‘global financial centre’ with 173,000 calling it home at the end of 2012. Additionally, if dating shows are anything to go by then one popular Chinese program, If You Are the One, is a good indicator that Shanghai is a good dating arena which racks in 50 million views per episode!
This exotic, cosmopolitan and vibrant destination not only offers high chances of finding love but it has numerous sightseeing, shopping, restaurant and nightlife options to enjoy. From ballroom dancing in the street in Nanjing Road to the magnificent architectural sights in The Bund to even a weekly Marriage Market at People’s Square, Shanghai is a good destination to find a male mate.
Renowned for its buff tanned blokes, beautiful beaches, sunny weather and pumping nightlife, Miami is one hot destination to find romance in the US of A. With a healthy 1.2:1 male to female ratio, this cosmopolitan beach city is filled with never-ending sights, events and activities for a singles holiday. Why not hit the trendy restaurants, bars and clubs in South Beach, catch the heart of a sweetie at a Miami Dolphins’ game or get wet and go below with a scuba dive trip exploring some of the world’s best waters – Miami is of course regarded as the ‘Wreckreational Dive Capital of the World’. Otherwise if beach lazing all day isn’t your thing then check out the city’s numerous funky galleries and museums and don’t forget to visit Miami’s Art Deco district.
TIP: If you’re looking closer to home (within Australia) then try Western Australia, Northern Territory or Mt Isa in Queensland.
