In March each year, Oxford Street in Sydney is a kaleidoscope of colour and glitter with around 300,000 revellers attending the Sydney Mardi Gras Parade. Starting from Hyde Park, the street is filled with over 10,000 marchers dancing, cheering and strutting their stuff in celebration of gay pride, love and marriage equality. The costumes, floats and choreography were incredible and the atmosphere was electric with everyone having a ‘gay ol time’.
In 2014, it had a record breaking 144 floats and parade participants included Surf Life Savers, Tully Smith from Big Brother, Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore, Deltra Goodman, Dykes on Bikes, NSW Nurses and Midwives, Australian Servicemen and Servicewomen and many more.
Here is my wrap-up of the biggest ‘gay pride’ event in Australia, Sydney Mardi Gras.
