Where are you now and where is your next travel destination?
I’ve stopped in to see the family and friends in Cairns. Will be here for a few days before heading back down the coast to Sydney.
What do you like most about your job?
It affords the flexibility to have more of a ‘location independent’ lifestyle. Although our team and office is based in Sydney, many of us work from home. The added benefit is I can work where I travel.
What do you always pack in your carry-on luggage?
My laptop. It is my livelihood.
What is your most memorable trip?
I walked across Spain in my early twenties. It took 30 days and about 850km, but it was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had in life.
What must-have travel products, accessories or apps do you recommend for any traveller?
Personally, if you can get used to a Kindle it will help you pack light. Travel guides, translation books and ‘holiday reads’ can all be stored in one convenient place. Also, I’m obviously biased being in the caravanning industry, but you can’t go past the Camps App or Camps book when needing to travel around Australia.
Your favourite travel quote is…
This is not specifically travel, but it is a favourite quote. It’s from the movie Kung Fu Panda – ‘Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That’s why it’s call the present’.
If you could be someone else for one day who would that be?
I would have liked to have spent a day in the life of Isaac Newton. Isaac was so devoted to science that he stuck a needle behind his eye, just to prove his hypothesis that nothing would happen. I think one day would be more than sufficient.
Your greatest weakness is…
Time. The older you get the smarter your decisions need to become as the opportunity cost is always higher. Since I can’t have more time, I would aim for one day having a private jet. At least that way you can travel and get to places faster.
If you could travel through time – where and what year/era would you chose to visit?
2008. I would stop a tree from falling and injuring my leg. Although, I would probably be a different person if it hadn’t happened. I’d also change my horse for the Melbourne cup, and this time pick a winner.
