“Lastminute.com.au is an online travel and leisure retailer. They have been Australia’s go to site for last minute travel for over 10 years now.”
Where are you now and where is your next travel destination?
I’m currently at my desk in the lastminute.com.au office in Brisbane. My next travel destination is Queenstown, New Zealand in early September. I’m so excited, Queenstown has been on my bucket list for a while now. Delicious food, wine and beautiful scenery here I come!
What do you like most about your job?
I love everything about working in the lastminute.com.au team. I’m so lucky to work with an amazing group of people. We spend more time with our work colleagues than most of our friends and family so it helps that we all have a shared love of, and a passion for, travel.
What do you always pack in your carry-on luggage?
Perfume is a must – it always makes me feel fresh even if I’m on a long haul flight. Other essentials include bronzer, lipstick, a water bottle to keep me hydrated and my headphones.
This is so hard because I’ve been on some fantastic holidays, however my most memorable trip would have to be in 2013 when I took a year off, and travelled around Europe and Northern Africa for the year. I call it my year of YOLO.
My favourite destination is a tie between Istanbul in Turkey (because I’m a bit of a history nerd) and San Sebastian in Spain due to its beauty and delicious food.
What must-have travel products, accessories or apps do you recommend for any traveller?
- Noise cancelling headphones are great for long journeys
- Triposo is an awesome app which enables users to access content and maps offline making it perfect to use when you don’t have your data switched on while travelling overseas.
- The lastminute.com.au app is perfect for spontaneous travellers. I love using the app on-the-go while travelling, whether I am on an Aussie roadtrip or an international adventure as it allows me to be more flexible with my travel plans as it’s really easy to use.
Your favourite travel quote is…
“Let’s go anywhere.” – Unknown.
If you could be someone else for one day who would that be?
Hmmmmm honestly I can’t think of anyone – pass.
Your greatest weakness is…
My fiancé would say I’m too messy ☺.
If you could travel through time – where and what year/era would you chose to visit?
Definitely the roaring 1920’s, it was such a culturally awakening, artistic and exciting era – everyone looked like they had lots of fun, plus I love a good shimmy dress!
As a travel expert, what are your travel hacks/tips for our readers?
When it comes to booking a holiday, if you’re after a hotel and flight, save dollars by booking a holiday package on lastminute.com.au/Holidays. I’ve given all of my friends and family this tip – my sister booked a package to New York for December this year and saved heaps of money, she was really happy with my ‘inside tip’!
Another hot tip is to check out lastminute.com.au secret hotels whereby you get access to fantastic hotel deals, with the added dose of spontaneity and secrecy. When booking a secret hotel you a few clues such as general location, star rating and hotel facilities – and once your booking is processed, you receive an email confirmation with the hotel name.
It’s a win-win situation for hotels and bargain hunters alike: the great rates mean you can splurge on a luxury hotel room without the price tag, while our hotel partners sell rooms that might otherwise stay empty.
