Where are you and where is your next travel destination?
Bali. I’m here once a month with my ladies-only ‘learn to surf’ holidays. Next stop, Melbourne (home) for a month and back here to paradise for another three weeks.
What do you like most about your job?
The wonderful people I spend time with – the Balinese teach me patience, remind me how blessed I am, and how the simple things in life are most often the best. The ladies I meet on my trips constantly surprise and amaze me; they are fearless women up for a challenge, and open to new possibilities every day. It’s inspiring.
What do you always pack in your carry-on luggage?
Noise-cancelling headphones, a scarf that doubles as a shawl, my moisturiser and small collection of toiletries (in case my luggage gets lost), and a pair of bathers and sarong (for the same reason – at least I can sit by a pool while I’m waiting for the bag to turn up!).
What is your most memorable trip?
A surf and yoga retreat in Bali last April; the trip fuelled my love for surfing and subsequently changed my life and my business model!
What must-have travel accessories or apps do you recommend for any traveller?
Travel accessories: a tough waterproof camera, and a small speaker to connect to your phone for music on the go in your hotel room.
Apps: I love TripAdvisor (of course)! I wouldn’t book a hotel without it. Yelp is great for dining, bars, and nightlife; TripIt helps me organise my itineraries seamlessly bringing all the trip details together in one program.
Your favourite travel quote is…
“We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.”
If you could be someone else for one day who would that be?
Angelina Jolie; I don’t want anyone else’s life but mine, however it would be fascinating to spend a day in the life of a woman who has so many children, extensive professional and humanitarian commitments, and who has so many different roles on a daily basis. I’m sure it would be an eye opener. And there’s always Brad Pitt to come home to…
Your greatest weakness is…
The need to travel. I can’t get enough of it.
