Where are you now and where is your next travel destination?
I’m in Brisbane, Australia at the moment, and my next travel destination is wherever the next chain of events leads me to! I’m up for going anywhere that doesn’t have a high probability of a fatal visit!
What do you like most about your job?
I really enjoy the experiences that I’ve been able to have because of opportunities from my silly travel blog. Things like having my first surfing lesson with former world champion Mark ‘Occy’ Occhilupo and throwing myself off perfectly stable platforms to feel the terrifying adrenalin rush of a bungy jump!
What do you always pack in your carry-on luggage?
At least one change of clothes, because I learnt that the hard way when an airline misplaced my luggage when I really needed my clothes for an interview!
What is your most memorable trip?
I’ve enjoyed every trip that I’ve been on because each one has offered up something different. But probably taking a minibus taxi from Zimbabwe to South Africa flying on crappy highways at 150 km/hour sitting next to the biggest person so that my backside was over my seat edge was unforgettable! And then I had to share a queen bed in the hostel that night with my male travel buddy because no dorms were left after banging down on the door at midnight! I don’t think there were any involuntary man hugs that night!
What must-have travel accessories or apps do you recommend for any traveller?
If you’re after laughs, try bringing a remote controlled fart machine. Fart jokes are truly universal! However, it does look like an explosive device so I refrain from bringing it now because I really don’t want a free cavity search.
Your favourite travel quote is…
What time is it? It’s beer o’clock!
If you could be someone else for one day who would that be?
I’d like to be an air crash investigator so that I could scare myself to death when I find out how some incidents are caused by placing the wrong sized screw in a vital piece of aircraft equipment!
Your greatest weakness is…
Beer, followed by food!
If you could travel through time – where and what year/era would you chose to visit?
I’d like to go back to any era where mass tourism wasn’t around so I could completely avoid any tourist traps!
As a travel expert, do you have any travel hacks/tips for our readers?
If you’re considering a long term travel stint, just do it. You won’t regret it – it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. And don’t plan it too much. Just choose the start and end point, and whatever happens in between happens!
