Where are you now and where is your next travel destination?
I live year round in the Victorian ski resort of Mt Buller, located three hours north-east of Melbourne. My next overseas travel destination is Norona, Norway where I will be going on a ski tour.
What do you like most about your job?
Working at Mt Buller and being part of the Buller Sports team – I work with motivated people who share the same visions and beliefs as I do.
What do you always pack in your carry-on luggage?
My essentials for carry-on luggage are: iPad, passport, a small towel, toothbrush, two pairs of socks, headphones, my ski goggles (so they don’t break in my checked luggage), a banana (always) and sometime one ski boot if my checked luggage is overweight.
What is your most memorable trip?
Always the last one I’ve returned from. Most recently it was exploring some of the more out of the way and less well known ski resorts of Japan.
What must-have travel accessories or apps do you recommend for any traveller?
I always use booking.com and Wikipedia when travelling, but my other favourite is wikiski.com. This site is home to a pretty comprehensive snapshot of resorts all over the world.
Your favourite travel quote is…
Before the trip: “Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.” – Captain Kirk, Star Trek. (Start the music).
During the trip: “Fascinating.” – Spock, Star Trek.
If you could be someone else for one day who would that be?
A rock star, playing a bad ass dirty rock ’n’ roll concert in front of 80.000 people, I think I would make a good drummer.
Your greatest weakness is…
I tend to be very shy when surrounded by too many people.
If you could travel through time – where and what year/era would you chose to visit?
Always the future! There is no need to explore something that has already happened.
As a travel expert, do you have any travel hacks/tips for our readers?
Plan your trip! In none of my travels have I ended up doing what I had planned. Not even close! The planning however educated me about the country, its culture and supported me in any decision I made during my trips.
