“Paradise Cove serves up an authentic and exciting Hawaiian luau on the island of Oahu.”
Situated on the west coast of Oahu is Paradise Cove approximately a 50min drive from Waikiki. It is one of the largest and most respected luau venues offered on the island and it’s easy to see why.
It boats stunning sunset ocean views, entertaining Hawaiian activities such as hula dancing, basket weaving and lei making. There’s also a vibrant marketplace with beautiful jewellery and arts and craft and artists demonstrating their talents.
One of my favourite pre-show experiences at Paradise Cove was their Hawaiian games area. Here you can test your skills at spear throwing, rolling stone disks and dart sliding.
Additionally, there’s a ceremony called ‘Hukilau on the Beach’. It gives you the opportunity to learn more about the Hawaiian culture and see how the locals perform their fishing techniques.
Shortly after ‘Hukilau on the Beach’, visitors are ushered into Paradise Cove’s Imu Amphitheater for the ‘Imu ceremony’, highlighting traditional Hawaiian cooking practices. In the middle of the theatre is a large underground oven where the locals prepare their dishes in particular pork – during the ceremony an entire pig is removed from the oven and is carried away to the buffet station for serving.
Once the ‘Imu ceremony’ has concluded all guests are seated at their tables and the buffet station is open. And, let me tell you the dishes served are simply delicious – pork with poi, fried chicken, grilled fish, seasonal salad greens, mac salad (my favourite!), taro rolls, a dessert table and plenty more. What is great about the buffet is it’s all you can eat – so you’re guaranteed to leave on a full stomach.
After dinner has been served it’s onto the Paradise Coves Luau, a spectacular performance featuring extravagant costumes and entertaining dance sequences, songs and fire twirling.
Also during the luau, the service from the staff was extremely welcoming, warm and friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed their commentary, conversations and how the dancers and band members would chat and pose with the guests for photos afterwards.
